PENTECOST is the birthday of the Church! Let us rejoice and be glad! As promised by our Risen Lord, and out of His great love, He gave us the Holy Spirit who remains always with us. Someone said that the Holy Spirit is the Present Tense of God! As the whole world still suffers from the corona virus, through the eyes of our faith, we are seeing and experiencing how the Holy Spirit is actively present in assurance that God never leaves us. Through His Spirit, the Lord teaches us lessons on living our gospel values and virtues especially in the very concrete situations in which we find ourselves.
Thanks be to God for the reopening of our Churches this Pentecost Sunday. Bishop Larry issued guidelines for us to follow for the well-being of all, as we resume our services. You may read these guidelines through the Diocesan website including three, short, well-done videos recently produced by the Diocese: a Welcome Address by Bishop Larry, a section on "Before You Go to Church," and a section on "When You Come to Church." The link is
https:www.catholichawaii.org/faithfulandsafe. You may also access the link in our MSOS website. I strongly encourage you to follow these guidelines for health and safety reasons before you come to Mary, Star of the Sea Church.
We will be retaining the same number of Masses as usual: Anticipated Saturday Masses: 5:30 PM/Sunday Masses: 6:30 AM, 8:15 AM, 10:15 AM, 11:45 AM and 5:30 PM. Weekday Masses will remain 6:30 AM and 5:30 PM, and the 4:00 PM Adoration and Evening Prayer will continue every day. The Church will be open for visitation beginning Pentecost Sunday, June 1st. Confession is by appointment only and no longer before Mass until further notice. You may also watch our Sunday Mass livestream on YouTube by clicking to the link on our website.
As you enter our Church, there will be posters on the main door and side doors with instructions similar to those also projected on the four screens inside the Church. There are floor stickers and blue tapes on the pews to indicate where to sit. Kindly follow our ushers as you enter and exit. Wearing masks are required for everyone, including children three years old and above. Families and couples may sit together. I also encourage everyone to bring wipes and hand sanitizers, although we will provide them for those unable to bring them for whatever reason. Washing hands can of course be done in our Church bathrooms. Other guidelines and reminders will be announced as necessary at proper times before and after the Masses. Thank you for your kind understanding and patience, especially during these changing and challenging times for our Church.
Keeping you all in my prayers and celebration of the Mass.
