MARKING THE END BY HAILING THE KING
The Jubilee Year of Mercy was declared by Pope Francis a year ago December 8, 2015 (the 50th an- niversary of the closing of Vatican II), and was designed as an outreach to awaken the faithful to re- flect on, and seek the mercy of God. Just as the Council looked to renew the church, Francis pro- claimed that mercy was the key to the church’s continuing renewal in this “new phase of her his- tory.”
The Pope called mercy “the very foundation of the church’s life and credibility,” and said, “Wherever there are Christians, everyone should find an oasis of mercy.”
The Holy Year will end on the feast of Christ our King, whom the Pope asked “to pour out His mercy, so that everyone may work together to build a brighter future.” On Sunday, November 20th, the Pope will formally bring the worldwide celebration to an end when he closes the designated Holy Door at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.
As the Jubilee Year of Mercy ends on this momentous feast, we at MSOS will be paying special trib- ute to our King by celebrating benediction and adoration right after the 5:30 pm Sunday Mass, Novem- ber 20th.
Adoration will take place right after the Mass until 9:00 pm. There will be a sign-up sheet at the en- trance to the Church on which you can choose a designated time to spend with our King of the World. Let’s celebrate by keeping Him company throughout this great feast day! Hail to our King!
